A Gel/Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress crafted With Quality Materials And Built With Durability In Mind

Designing a really great bed requires a deep understanding of the materials involved to create the perfect recipe for comfort, support, and durability. We've engineered hundreds of mattresses ourselves, and know all of the tricks and short cuts that a mattress designer can use to keep costs low and focus on profit margins instead of building a bed that is really worth the money.  There are hundreds of sources for foam, much of which can be imported or is simply lower in density or made using ancient equipment that spits out inconsistent and faulty components. The team at Puffy has used the same mantra we used when we designed our own best selling mattresses over the last 20 years. Keep the design simple, clean, and functional, and the mattress is less likely to fail. Use the right density and caliber of components in the recipe, and it is possible to create a bed that has, as Puffy describes it "a universal appeal". The Puffy mattress delivers extraordinary "deep comfort and pressure relief", superb breathability, moisture and heat dissipation technology which ensure no heat buildup and maintenance of a body neutral temperature profile. Also, Puffy uses a water based adhesive instead of a VOC and formaldehyde based glue. We've given both the Puffy Mattress and the Puffy Lux Mattress our highest MBG rating of five stars.

Surprisingly simplistic in design, the Puffy mattress is designed with three unique ingredients. A base or foundation layer made using CertiPUR-US® foam, made without toxic ingredients found in lower quality poyurethane foam. Ever wonder how toxic a mattress can be? Puffy has built a bed without these issues. The base layer is made without ozone depleters, PBDE's, heavy metals, formaldehyde, pthalates, and contains extremely low VOC emission. This layer is 6" thick and acts as the support layer to provide appropriate uplifting support. Puffy uses a 31-32ILD foam which is ideal for a person of typical weight.

Above the foundation layer, Puffy uses a remarkably high quality component for the comfort layer, the body contact component that offers the yielding, giving, and soft pressure relieving surface that delivers that plush and signature feel of the bed. The 4" top layer is essentially a gel foam infused layer of memory foam which offers the best pressure relief you can find, while still limiting the amount of "sink" you feel, delivering a buoyant, sumptuous feel. The component is made using a Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF) process, unique to Puffy. They source their materials from  U.S. based manufacturers that we know and trust.

The Puffy Lux Mattress is built using precisely the same ingredients as the Puffy Mattress, but offers an additional comfort layer between the gel memory foam and polyurethane foundaiton layer. This layer adds a bit more sumptuousness to the bed, and is great for people who need additional support at shoulders, hips, or even sidesleepers who need a bit more "nestle factor".

 Puffy's "small Batch" policy

One of the most well kept secrets in the "bed in a box" online mattress business is the simple fact that most manufacturers and retailers use third party fabrication facilities to produce their beds. The most efficient and cost effective method for building and production is to have a large crew do a run of several hundred or in some cases, a thousand, mattresses at once. The beds are built, glued together, and then compressed and rolled, soon to be stuffed into boxes. The boxes are then piled up and cued for pick up by FedEx or UPS or freight carriers. They often sit idle like this for weeks or as we have observed, for as long as a month at some fabrication houses. Puffy employs a "small batch" policy that insures that production is controlled by the demand for the product, and that no mattress stays compressed prior to shipping for longer than a few days. This is practically unheard of in the compressed mattress business which now dominates the mattress industry today.

performance qualities and design

Because of the density of the foam components used, the Puffy mattress as well as the Lux version, offer excellent edge support, which makes transferring in and out bed easy, especially at night when you're groggy, or when you need to put on a pair of running shoes.  It's also excellent at minimizing motion transfer thanks to the extra thick layer of gel infused memory foam which spreads weight laterally and reduces rippling effects caused by motion. Because the "cake recipe" of the Puffy mattress is well thought out, the combined or orchestrated effect of the ingredients  work very well together and provide an excellent level of contour and resilience which help in absorbing motion and restricting it to a particular area. This means that if you have a sleeping partner that tosses and turns all night or moves in and out of the bed regularly, then you have to be rest assured as the regular movements will not disturb or disrupt your sleep. The layers also provide solid support and bounce which help restricting the body from sinking in too much. You will not feel the lighter partner rolling towards the heavier partner on this mattress, a notorious problem with memory foam beds. The design promotes proper spine alignment and offers just the right amount of bounce, without being too springy and jiggly.

The Puffy Mattress and the Puffy Lux Mattress arrive in a neatly packaged box via FedEx ground shipping. The beds are pre-compressed and carefully rolled using sate of the art C3 Machines that we approve of. Puffy does not compress beds for longer than a few days prior to shipping, according to their unique "small batch policy".

Reviews And Customer Satisfaction

We scoured multiple review sites to see just how much customers loved their Puffy mattress and were pretty surprised at what we found. Unlike other review sites, where you're relying on Chad in cargo shirts to give you his opinion, we use our 20+ years of industry experience running our own mattress companies to evaluate thousands of reviews that owners have contributed...that's right, folks who have purchased the Puffy mattress and are using it in real time. The results are remarkable, considering the bed is so simplistically designed.

An archival examination of over 3,448 reviews offered by actual users provided our team with a customer satisfaction rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, one of the highest rated beds we've reviewed and recommended, and we're pretty happy about that. If you are looking for your dream bed, a mattress designed with universal appeal, we've provided a few links that get you to Puffy's site and offers excellent discounts (how about $250 off?) if you order soon.
